Marci Mitchell
Nashville is a long haul from the rural fields of Missouri,
but that is exactly where this singer's dreams led her. When Marci Mitchell
arrived in Nashville just a couple years ago, the dream of becoming a Country
Icon was still a blur. Since then she has completed a self-titled CD, started a
regional tour, gained national sponsorship and now has witnessed her CD's
success throughout the country. And although she's not quite a household name,
in a short time she is well on her way to making her dreams a reality.
Marci Mitchell is still living the
first quarter of her life, but she's had a century full of experience! Growing
up in the small southwestern town of Nevada, MO, she began performing locally at
the age of 8 calling for a square dance club and practicing for customers in her
mother's beauty shop. Marci's story about her love for country music is the same
as that of any other country icon; she mentions George Strait, Linda Ronstadt,
Willie Nelson, and Merle Haggard as influencing her taste for tradition. Her
love of performing and music was then nurtured by a great support system of
family, friends, and instructors along the way, and during high school she began
performing with local bands, which she continued throughout her college career.
Since
Marci had a full volleyball scholarship waiting for her after high school
graduation and was in the top 10 of her class, NOT going to college ever entered
her mind. She proved to be a true leader during her two years at FSCC in Ft.
Scott, KS and was awarded as the Outstanding Sophomore student, as well as
co-captain of the volleyball team, Outstanding Music student, and crowned
Homecoming queen her freshman year. During this busy time, she still remained
active in the college choir (who performed in the Bahamas) and made time to
continue performing on weekends with her band.
Although
music was pulling Marci in it's direction, she decided to stay in college and
finish her bachelor degree in English. She was selected into the Honors College
at Pittsburg State University and offered a full academic scholarship as well as
a choir scholarship. While at PSU she also starred as lead roles in productions
that include the rock opera, "TOMMY" and Molier's "Tartuffe." Since music was
taking up more of her time and effort, there wasn't much time left for
collegiate sports and Marci began to dedicate more of her life to music. After
graduating PSU with honors of Magna Cum Laude, she was finally prepared to make
the musical journey to Nashville.
Loaded up
with some furniture, no job, and no hard-core plan, Marci moved to Nashville to
pursue her dream. She was fortunate enough to meet some established writers and
musicians from the start and quickly realized that there is no such thing as a
fast track in the music business. Just over a year later, after a lot of blood,
sweat, and tears were shed, Marci finished her first CD that highlights some of
the fine writing in Nashville. Along with those songs, the CD also features
Marci's own songwriting skills on Heart Full of Love, Waitin' for
Mr. Right, and Just Show Me Love.
After
many hard lessons learned, Marci, armed with Nashville knowledge and her debut
CD, decided to put together her own band and hit the road! Like every known star
before her has done, Marci took to the highway to discover her sound, get some
experience, and let the country become "exposed" to her music. Exposed they are
- for the last two years Marci and her band have kept extremely busy bringing
their music to nearly 31 states across the Midwest between Pennsylvania and New
Mexico! The Marci Mitchell Band has opened for the likes of Ty England, Sammy
Kershaw, Trent Wilmon, Doug Supernaw, and even played the stage at Loretta
Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, TN. Marci has also gained regional sponsors and
recently earned an endorsement by Nocona Belts.
Marci
knows the road isn't smooth, but she's got dirty hands to prove that she is a
competitor and that she isn't going down without a fight. She realizes that
there are dues to pay, still the glitter in her eyes and her down-home honesty
confirms that she's ready for the challenge. Although she lives and breathes
music most of the time, when Marci isn't on stage, she enjoys a variety of
activities that include riding horses, playing volleyball, softball, golf, or
basically participating in anything athletic, competitive, or outdoorsy. She
loves to ride her motorcycle, watch movies, write, and spend time with her
family and friends when she has time off the road.
After listening to Marci's CD in it's entirety, she hopes the listener
will begin to see a style that is unique and entirely independent. That could be
the reason It's A Guy Thing landed in the top ten for
two months straight on The Heartland Independent Country Music Chart. This CD
includes a very touching ballad entitled That's Enough
written by Nancy Peacock and Toni Davis and for the traditional country fans,
Marci has a great song on the CD entitled Lonestar Moon,
which takes you back in time to the days of Bob Wills. Her CD is a mix of
contemporary country and traditional sounds, which will certainly please just
about any fan of country music - old or new. So remember the name and be looking
for her in a town near you to see for yourself what makes this girl a favorite
in many fans eyes! |
